This project was a joint venture between WJL Contracts Ltd and Horton Construction Services. WJL Contracts had been contracted by Osborne to carry out the design, supply and installation of the carpentry works to the new library for Roehampton University. The labour element of their contract was then sub-let to Horton Construction Services. This was an extremely technical scheme that required a collaborative approach between all three parties to ensure that the programme and quality demands of the client were met. The main element of work was a 4-storey oak atrium staircase including oak steps, an oak soffit, oak balustrading and an oak capping for the handrails. As well as this we had cladding to 4nr large rooflights, TopAkustic cladding to the inside face of all external walls, slatted oak panelling to stair cores and atrium balustrades, oak linings to window reveals and installation of doors, ironmongery and skirting.
This was an extremely successful scheme that has won a number of awards including the RIBA National Award 2018 and a commendation for Osborne at the New London Awards 2018.
